Resonating 30 with Qu Chunquan

Celebrate the enduring impact of SCO’s former Deputy Music Director, Qu Chunquan, as he revisits cherished works and memories from his artistic journey with the orchestra.

Through music of deep personal and artistic significance, Maestro Qu invite audiences to look back on moments that shaped SCO’s evolving sound.

The programme includes He Xuntian’s Capriccio of River Dabo, alongside Maestro Qu’s own composition, Reverie at the Statue of Sir Stamford Raffles — a reflective work that draws on the familiar tune Singapura and expresses his close emotional connection to Singapore. Audiences can also enjoy the much-loved pipa concerto Hua Mu Lan, featuring soloist Yu Jia.

A highlight of the programme is Liu Wenjin’s The Great Wall Capriccio, featuring erhu soloist Zhao Jianhua, a protégé of the late Min Huifen, who performed at the work’s 1982 premiere under Maestro Qu’s baton. Weaving together stories, memories, and music, this deeply resonant programme reflects SCO’s artistic past while offering it back to audiences as a gesture of thanks and celebration.
