Stage Camp by SRT Singapore Stories Edition


This year-end school holidays, dive into mythical folklore to uncover more about Singapore’s colourful heritage from the book, Singapore Children’s Favorite Stories, written by Diane Taylor.

 

Through this five-day camp, participants will be able to develop their confidence, performance skills, and creative thinking as supported by our professional teaching team. At the end of the week, the camp concludes with a presentation for family and friends to enjoy.

Play Stage (4 to 6 years-old) participants will journey alongside mermaids Sea Plum and Sea Pearl to discover How the Island of Singapore Came About. Meanwhile, Theatre Stage (7 to 12 years-old) goers will be asked to ponder the legend behind Bukit Merah’s name in The Raja’s Mistake. 

SRT’s Stage Camp will be conducted in-house at KC Arts Centre. Participants will be working in small groups of 5 in accordance with the National Arts Council’s health and safety regulations for speech and drama programmes.

PLAY STAGE – How the Island of Singapore Came About

In the story How the Island of Singapore Came About, Sea Plum and her sister Sea Pearl secretly venture out into the great unknown. However, they run the risk of getting caught by their ruthless King, Hai Loong Wang. Will they swim into troubled waters or escape his wrath?

Join the mermaid sisters on this whirlwind adventure that promises to stretch your child’s imagination and get their feet tails moving. All whilst learning performance skills such as storytelling, expression, movement, and much more!

Together with an experienced SRT Theatre Practitioner, your child will: 

  • Learn performance skills such as stage presence, vocalisation, and storytelling 
  • Exercise their creativity and imagination   
  • Develop their confidence
  • Craft and perform a short presentation  

THEATRE STAGE – THE RAJA’S MISTAKE

  • 1.30pm – 3.30pm
  • 7 - 12 year olds

Oh no! The island of Singapore is under attack by swordfishes! Luckily, a young boy saves the island with his quick wit. Despite this, the Raja soon grows jealous of the boy’s intelligence and thus decides to pursue him with hatred. 

In Theatre Stage, evade the Raja’s wicked intentions by tackling dramatic games and theatre techniques that will keep you on your toes! At the end of the week, put your acting chops to the test with a presentation for loved ones.  

Theatre Stage is an intermediary program that is suitable for novice and theatre aficionados alike.  

Together with an experienced SRT Theatre Practitioner, your child will:

  • Practise performance techniques such as expression, improvisation, and physicality 
  • Build on their confidence and communication skills  
  • Develop leadership skills and collaborate as a group 
  • Express their creativity and ideas 
  • Devise and present an original story
