Drama & Movement Therapy for Teenage Girls

Drama & Movement Therapy for Teenage Girls

Drama & Movement Therapy for Teenage Girls

Drama & Movement Therapy is a fairly new offering in Singapore and we are so lucky to have Karin Ball, a certified Drama & Movement Psychotherapist, to facilitate one-of-a kind group therapy support sessions just for teenage girls.⁣
Research has shown that Drama and Movement Therapy is beneficial in helping people navigate the terrain of emotions, mental triggers and stressors, through embodiment movement, imagination and play. As an embodied practice it is active and experiential and can provide the context for participants to tell their stories, set goals, solve problems, and express their feelings. This allows for the inner experience to be actively explored so as to enhance the outer experience of interpersonal relationships and social skills. In these sessions, through the support and guidance of the therapist, a creative, safe and contained environment is key.⁣

Why te focus on teenage girls?

Teenage girls today are facing more problems than ever; stress, anxiety, depression and suicide rates among them on the rise. Studies and reports have shown that*:⁣

  • 31 per cent of girls and young women experience symptoms of anxiety, compared with 13 per cent of boys and young men. ⁣
  • Girls feel more pressure, and that they endure more of the physical symptoms of psychological strain, such as fatigue and changes in appetite. ⁣
  • Girls worry more about how they look than boys.⁣
  • ⁣Girls between the ages of 12 and 17 are now nearly three times more likely than boys to become depressed.⁣

⁣Girls are more likely than boys not only to be cyberbullied but also to dwell on the emotional injuries caused by their peers.

Teenage girls aged 12 - 16 years who show signs of stress, anxiety, overwhelm and depression. ⁣
