This special 3 hour workshop - facilitated by birthworkers and prenatal yoga teachers - is for expectant parents who are looking to enrich their experience of labouring and birth.
The first part of the workshop will cover basic fundamentals of birth physiology, and the practical tools and exercises to make birth physically, mentally and emotionally more easeful for birthing mothers and their partners. These tools look into maternal positioning, foetal positioning, comfort measures, some meditation and visualisation techniques.
Some of the questions we will explore together through theory and practice are:
- What happens during labour?
- How can we prepare the birthing body for labour and birth?
- What maternal positions will enable labour to progress?
- What is foetal positioning and is there an optimal position for baby to be in?
- What are comfort measures and how do they help?
The second part of the session will focus on partner yoga exercises to build trust, strength, connection, and affection - qualities that will be helpful to invite into the birthing suites and beyond! The yoga practice session will include partner moves to strengthen and stretch, as well as couple breathing exercises to take with you during labour and birth.

Dewi Chen is trauma-aware Prenatal Yoga, Womb Yoga teacher, childbirth educator, birth and postpartum doula. She is obsessed anything related to female anatomy and geeks out at birth videos to unwind. She draws upon her training in Spinning Babies, Optimal Maternal Positioning and Prenatal Yoga to support birthing couples from #wombtoworld. She believes that the world can be made better if we do more to empower and support birthing couples.
As a prenatal yoga teacher and trained counsellor, Zheng knows a thing or two about how the mental state of mind can affect birth outcomes! Spurred by her own pregnancy, she chanced upon Womb Yoga in her training with Dr Uma Dinsmore-Tuli and found a deep connection between yoga and the female needs. Our resident baby whisperer also teaches Mums & Bubs Yoga, Mums & Tots Yoga and is gifted at putting both mothers and babies at ease.
