About Azpirasi

Founded by Azmi Juhari in 2000 with fewer than 10 members, Azpirasi is slowly carving a name for itself in Singapore’s dance scene. Its dancers are extremely committed and dedicated to their craft and have performed several shows all over the country. Azpirasi strives to heighten audience’s sensorial experiences through a myriad of colours and sounds. The group has matured over the years through collaborations with other professional dance troupes in and around the region. What began as a vague dream for its main choreographer and founder has now evolved into a troupe with ambitions to constantly evolve, grow and refine the craft of dance.

About Hasyimah Harith

Based in Singapore, Hasyimah Harith is a Malay-Muslim female artist that has trained in Malay folk dance for 15 years. She performs, choreographs and teaches traditional Malay dance repertoires, such as asli, inang, joget and zapin. She is also a visual arts educator and co-founder of P7:1SMA, a dance company formed in 2016 that uses dance to confront and reimagine the Malay community’s relationship with their identity.

About Norhaizad Adam

Norhaizad Adam is a Malay dancer, dance artist and choreographer who was born, raised and currently living in Singapura. He works across traditional and contemporary ideation to create brave spaces for narratives that are often unseen and unheard. He reimagines and uses the Malay folk dance form as a strategy to navigate social issues.

Since 2004, Haizad has spent his growing up years in Singapore as a Malay dancer under the tutelage of self-made Malay dance master practitioner, Azmi Juhari, at Azpirasi. Through Malay dance, Haizad continues to examine how individuals navigate complex issues of identity and society.
