Based on the German medieval folk fairy tale, the ballet tells the legendary love story between the beautiful princess Odette and the prince Siegfried. It has been re-performed for more than 100 years, and ballet companies around the world have different versions of Swan Lake.
Suzhou Ballet Theatre has invited renowned ballet masters ZHANG Weiqiang and Caroline Gruber to stage a new version of Swan Lake by Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet. With choreography by Galina Yordanova after Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, this version received its first performance in 1973 and has so far been performed for over 200 times. Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s novel adaptation has given this poignant love story new vitality, making it full of vigor and infinite in charm on stage.
