Arts@SBG: NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Gardens presents Tze Toh and TO Ensemble

Tze Toh and TO Ensemble present a performance of original contemporary fusion works from more than a decade of concerts inspired by the beauty of our world. Through the music, immerse in nature’s breathtaking tapestry - a symphony of life orchestrated in a unique blend of jazz, film score, classical, Indian music and Asian sounds. Join us as we travel from the depths of the oceans discovering mysterious whales, to the Arctic where a lonesome polar bear walks; from the Nordic lands of mountains and fjords, to a lake where we hear a beautiful swan’s call; finally dance a dance of life in the forest, and to the skies with a song of the wind, and above to the stars beyond.

Featuring original music by award-winning composer Tze Toh, and performed by Lazar T. Sebastine (Carnatic violin), Wu Bingling (violin), Teo Boon Chye (tenor sax), Tze Toh (piano), Miyata Masato (bass) and Phan Qi Xian (drums).

Tze Toh composes for film, animation, documentaries, concerts, contemporary dance, TVCs and events/media, working with international brands such as Cartier, Club Med, Toyota Discovery Channel and Nendo. An exceptionally versatile composer/pianist, Tze Toh was described by The Straits Times as “an extraordinary musician whose idiom straddles comfortably between genres of classical, jazz, world and film music" who "possesses an original voice”. The Business Times described his music as “sophisticated and accessible”, selecting his debut album Stories from Wonderland as one of the top 10 albums of the year, having “helped shape music in 2011”. His latest concept album Memories of 2055, exploring what it means to be human through the eyes of an A.I, was released to much acclaim. His works have been showcased in Brazil, the Netherlands, the Maldives, Poland, Spain, France, UK, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. He often experiments, collaborating with artists from outside of music, from dance choreographers, painters, motion graphics artists, fashion designers, chefs, poets, story-tellers to scientists.
