Stamford American International School

Stamford American International School

At Stamford American International School, we are a big school, with the heart of a small school. We believe in the power of belonging, and coupled with a culture of care, we inspire students to connect deeply to learning, thrive in a diverse community and make their mark on the world.

Stamford American International School offers a holistic education for students from 2 months to 18 years of age. We’re the first and only school in Singapore to offer Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) and Business and Technical Education Council (BTEC) Diploma curricula, together with a US-accredited High School Diploma. As an inclusive school, we are also home to over 75 different nationalities and was recently awarded Silver at the inaugural Honeykids’ Singapore Education Awards 2021 in the category of International School of the Year.

1. Early Learning Village

The Stamford American Early Learning Village is specially designed for the preschool years, from Pre-Nursery to Kindergarten 2, and welcomes children aged 18 months to 6 years. Infant care is also available at the Village for children 2 months to 18 months where infants are given plenty of time for uninterrupted play. Families have the flexibility to build their children’s school week according to their individual needs.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, the Early Learning Village has been built as an environment for safe, experiential learning for Early Years children. The inspirational Village is a treasure trove of state-of-the-art school facilities, featuring child-height windows and doors, six outdoor playgrounds with lots of space to run and play, a covered swimming pool, the Hive which is an indoor air-conditioned wide open space, a well-stocked library, a health centre and a parent cafe.

Our unique curriculum is guided by the USA Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Year’s Programme (PYP). STEAMInn - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Innovation is integrated across the curriculum. Our teachers carefully monitor children’s learning by using GOLD ™Assessment system, and parents are kept up to date with five daily teacher blogs, a weekly newsletter, four quarterly reports and two parent-teacher conferences.

Our world class specialist programs includes specialist languages of Mandarin or Spanish, English as an Additional Language (EAL) support, an innovative and unique Bilingual English/Mandarin program, and we are the only school in Singapore to offer the world-renowned Suzuki Violin Program from the age of 3, with the option to progress to cello from KG2. We are also very proud of our Instrumental Music Program (IMP) at Stamford American, which starts as early as age 3 for 1 to 1 private or group music tuition, taught by quality music instructors.

A moving child is a learning child – which is why we offer physical education from 18 months through the introduction of the acclaimed SMART Steps and Perceptual Motor Program. We also firmly believe that especially in such a diverse international environment, visual art lets students communicate and visualize in powerful ways beyond their native languages. Visual arts lessons in the PYP curriculum are designed to foster creativity and self-discovery, where students are exposed to visual concepts through a hands-on approach to art.Stamford American, their teachers are early learning specialists and their knowledge and experience complements the built environment to ensure every child is happy, involved and learning.

2. Elementary School

Our Elementary School curriculum is based on the IB PYP integrated with American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards, and focuses on a language arts program, a core mathematics program, and daily Mandarin and Spanish lessons. Elementary students who are interested in dedicating more time and effort into learning Mandarin as a second language have the option of joining the Bilingual Program at no extra cost.

Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) program is also available to all students from KG2 to Grade 10 and offers a unique environment that sees students fully integrated into the mainstream classroom and supported by dedicated EAL experts.

We have specialist teachers who can instruct students in the areas of Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Physical Education, Modern Languages (Mandarin or Spanish), and Library. We also offer ample opportunities for students to learn beyond the classroom through Academic Field Studies and Co-Curricular Activities programs.

3. Middle School

The transition process from Elementary School to Middle School varies for each student, and can be bumpy for some. Through our culture of care, Stamford American Middle School supports the learning, social emotional growth and well-being of our students aged 11 to 14 years. Our inclusive approach is both supportive and appropriately challenging to empower our students for academic and personal growth.

Our inquiry-based Middle School curriculum uses the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IB MYP) integrated with American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards. The IB MYP framework is centered on the academic, emotional and social development of young individuals, and students are guided and inspired to apply the concepts they learn to global issues.

4. High School

With choice comes greater opportunities. Every student is an individual with a unique future. At Stamford American High School, students aged 14 to 18 years are given the opportunity to tailor their academic pathways for their personal ambition and future plans.

We are the first and only school in Singapore that offers Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) and Business and Technical Education Council (BTEC) Diploma curricula, together with a US-accredited High School Diploma. These multiple graduating pathways are designed to inspire students to create their own unique future.

5. Preparatory Course for Secondary School (PCS)

The Stamford Preparatory Course for Secondary School (PCS) is a unique program that provides English language learners access to an international education in Singapore. This program equips students aged 11 to 16 with English language proficiency needed to be successful and thrive in the rigorous academic environment of Stamford American. The program is offered in two learning types - both online and in person, in order to support the learning requirement of our students and families.

Beyond our high academic standards, our students are kind, interested and diligent. We connect their learning to the real world, and they lean into conversations about how they can develop the attributes of the IB learner profile and make a difference in the world.

We’re equipped with state-of-the-art classrooms, theatre, science labs, quiet study spaces, spacious libraries, gyms, pools, etc, and our teachers thrive in this well-resourced environment and leverage it to promote active learning for our students.
