TickiKids' Test Patrol Family Visits Kampung Raya Festivities at LEGOLAND Malaysia

Just an hour's drive from Singapore to Malaysia there is a place that children and adults alike are eager to visit. It is rightly considered one of the best places to visit for the whole family, as people of all ages will find activities to suit them.

LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort is a unique LEGO-inspired theme park with more than 15,000 LEGO models made from over 60 million LEGO bricks. Every visit here is a one-of-a-kind adventure, but when the holidays come around, spending time in the park is truly unforgettable! And Hari Raya celebration in the Kampung days is not an exception! We could not miss this opportunity and sent our Test Patrol family on a mission to try and test everything that LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort has to offer for this festive time!

It was particularly appreciated that our Test Patrol mom Selena Tay and her three kids Sharilyn Gui (16yo, F), Geralyn Gui (10yo, F), and Skyler Gui (7yo, M) had been to LEGOLAND before, so they had something to compare their impressions of the park's atmosphere and appearance with.

Creating festive vibes with decorations and activities

During these days the whole park is transformed into a Heritage Malaysia Kampung. All decorations and activities here pay tribute to the traditional ways of celebrating this holiday. From the traditional “huts” to the line-up of games, performances, cultural shows, music, and dance on stage, everything here is aimed at creating the joyous vibes and warmth of a Hari Raya celebration in the Kampung days.

Selena stated:

“Very festive – full of Hari Raya celebration vibes around. So many activities to take part in; glad to have a brochure highlighting the timings for the various Special Raya Activities (for Fri, Sat, Sun only), Activities (All Day), Live Shows, Aidilfitri Hunt, and Special Appearances, to help us plan our day at the Theme Park.”

As for the Water Park, you can find another mini Kampung there outside the Changing Area - it is a great photo spot, however, take into consideration, it is better to take photos before the sunset. Our scouts ran into a problem of shadows, reflections, and imbalanced lightning when taking photos in the setting sun - forewarned - armed.

“ In SEA LIFE Malaysia, the photo spot set up near the entrance was not-as-obvious in terms of Raya or Kampung vibes. There was a “SEA-LAMAT HARI RAYA, Let’s Balik Kampung Activity Card, where we need to visit different spots / “Kampungs” to collect stamps and bring home some tasty Dodol (3 in a bag) as a treat.”

Back To Kampung Raya Festivities activities

With so many activities to choose from, all the children had an activity that they liked the most.

Sharylin’s most memorable activity was Ketupat Weaving Workshop (Fri, Sat, Sun, 15:00 h; @ The Beginnings). There, kids can learn to make their very own Ketupat casings with the instructions provided by the attentive staff.

Note, plan your activities in advance if you want to take part in the workshops without excesses like having no time to change out of wet clothes after the splashing ride at Dino Land before the workshop.

Geralyn preferred the Batik Painting Workshop (Fri, Sat, Sun, 16:00h; @ The Beginnings) where she learned how to make a batik design. She enjoyed mixing the colors, painting the batik flowers given to her carefully, and taking lots of pride in completing a beautiful batik piece, to be taken home.

The youngest kid, Skyler, managed to create his very own LEGO lantern at Build-A-Lantern (All Day @ The Beginnings) following the given instruction sheet.

And mom Selena was fond of Batu Seremban (All Day @ The Beginnings) where it was possible to learn how to play traditional Malaysian childhood games.

“It was nostalgic as I watched Skyler indulge in a range of fun, classic Malaysian childhood games and activities: Congkak, Checkers, Play Dress Up, Teng Teng (Hopscotch). Realized that the kids didn’t know how to play the traditional game of Batu Seremban (Five Stones), and lots of primary school memories came back to me as I demonstrated how to play the 8 “levels” of the game.”

Boosting the festive mood to the max

Apart from trying out all the All Day Activities @ The Beginnings, the family took part in different festive-themed activities. For example, Skyler participated in the Live Show at the stage area in The Kingdom. He gamely joined in the songs and dance being performed, together with the other audience that formed a small crowd around the stage.

Also, they also caught 2 out of the 6 Raya-themed live shows and performances, staged from the Theme Park opening to closing times, and took a group photo with LEGOLAND Malaysia’s mascot Ollie the Dragon. And a successful MINILAND Kampung Aidilfitri Hunt won them an exclusive LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort Salam Aidilfitri gift/badge, redeemed at the Redemption Booth

The Verdict

The visit to LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort at this time can be a time to remember, that’s for sure.

“Expose our kids to the rich Malay culture and traditions, while immersing in the warmth of a Hari Raya celebration in the Kampung days. Relive those nostalgic traditional games, sing and dance, embark on an educational learning journey, while soaking in loads of fun, with the sun, water, sea animals, rides and thrills.”

We would like to express our deep gratitude to LEGOLAND Malaysia for giving us the opportunity to send our Test Patrol family there and see the beauty of the park for themselves.

And our huge thanks go to Selena Tay and her lovely family for their time and attention to detail and a well-rounded review that may come in handy to any family who decides to visit LEGOLAND Malaysia these days!

Editor’s Note. The 3 Parks are easily accessible if you are staying at LEGOLAND Hotel. Google Maps shows a 4-5 minutes drive from Hotel Ramada, 1.3 km away (15 min walk or by public buses). Shuttle Bus service (10 seaters) is available, from Hotel Ramada (10.15 a.m.) and LEGOLAND (5.00 p.m.).
